About Us
We are a small, dedicated team committed to providing genuine, relationship-based respite support in Windsor–Essex, Ontario.
Who we are
Refuel Respite Inc. is a Windsor–Essex-based organization providing an Essex day program and individualized 1-to-1 respite services. We were founded with a clear purpose: to offer support that feels personal, consistent, and genuinely helpful — for both the individuals we work with and the families who care for them.
We are a small team, and we think that matters. Smaller means we can take the time to truly get to know each person. It means we can be thoughtful about who we bring on as support workers, and careful about how we match people together.
We serve individuals across the Windsor–Essex region. Our day program is based in Essex, and our 1-to-1 respite services are delivered in the community and in the home.
Our approach
Everything we do is shaped by a few core beliefs about what good support looks like.
Relationships first
We believe the quality of a support relationship matters more than anything else. We invest time in getting to know each person before anything is arranged.
Consistency
Familiar faces and predictable routines matter. We work hard to ensure each person has consistent support workers they can trust.
Genuine engagement
Support should feel real, not transactional. We aim for meaningful participation in activities and community life — not just supervision.
Collaboration with families
Families know their loved ones best. We work closely with them to understand goals, preferences, and what good support looks like in practice.
Honest fit assessment
We take time to assess whether our program is right for each person. If we are not the right fit, we will say so — and try to point families in a helpful direction.
Continuous improvement
We stay open to feedback and look for ways to improve. Good support is never static — it evolves as the person and their needs change.
Working with families
We understand that choosing a support provider is a significant decision. Families are trusting us with someone they love, and we take that seriously.
Before we begin working with anyone, we take time to meet with the family, learn about the individual, and have an honest conversation about whether our program is a good fit. We do not rush this process.
Once support is in place, we stay in regular communication with families. We want to hear how things are going, what is working well, and where we can do better.
